The Office (2014)

The office was created for the inaugural The Birdsell Project exhibition, which granted 20 artists each a room in a vacant, 19th-century mansion in South Bend, IN. The mansion's history as a home that was converted to office space inspired my creation of a home office designed to match the mansion's last period of occupancy. Signs of abandonment and neglect found throughout the house's interior were completely eliminated in this one room, creating an illusion of occupancy that stood in contrast to the remainder of the mansion. Visitors were invited to spend time in the room, have a drink, socialize, and look through the many scrapbooks and magazines containing local history. Visitors could also play classic rock, folk & soul records on the HiFi console or watch some period programming on the television.
