Brickscape artist residency & exhibition

Brickscape was a national artist residency program I developed in Charleston, WV. It celebrated the history and culture of the area by inviting regional and national artists to create immersive and interactive installation art in vacant or underutilized spaces. The aim was to inspire dialogue concerning the potential of the many underutilized spaces scattered throughout the city and to provide the local community with an opportunity to experience and engage with contemporary art. The residency took place in Charleston in 2018 and virtually in 2020. The residency of 2018 was part of FestivALL Charleston, a 2-week city-wide festival of arts & culture programming. In addition to keeping daily open hours free to the public, the exhibition hosted several events throughout the duration of the festival, including an exhibition opening reception; a musical concert; a site-specific theater performance, and a community potluck.
