Magnet Poetry Walls (2021)

These magnet poetry walls were created as part of my collaborative work with teens at The Community Art Center. Teens worked in teams to devise themes that could direct choices of imagery and text, with one wall containing words intended for adult use and another containing letters and shapes intended for children. Teens presented their concepts to each other and decided on the best ideas. They then digitally formatted all the words and letters for laser cutting and helped fabricate, paint, and install the panels. The theme for the adult-use wall is “the seasons,” while the theme for the children’s wall is “outer space.” The words and letters are made of laser-cut acrylic, and the walls are painted stainless steel. They are located in Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA, and were commissioned by The Cambridge Community Development Department. I have since contracted with the department independently to replenish the magnets in various iterations.
