Interactive skatepark model & exhibition (2023)

This project was part of my work with The Community Art Center. In partnership with with The Charles River Conservancy, I developed multiple projects that would align with their community forum series centered around the potential for public art at Lynch Family Skatepark. The forums were intended to provide space for people to raise issues or concerns about the skatepark and hold conversations on how public art may or may not be a valuable asset to the park. For the forums, I worked with a small group of teens and a local maker’s space to create a physical model of the park using a combination of 3D printing and laser cutting. The model was present at two forum events where attendees could voice their desires, dreams, or concerns with the park by drawing directly on the model, placing color-coded stickers on it, or simply using it as a visual aid in their discussions.

To coincide with the forum series, I organized an exhibition of skateboard art with a larger group of teens who I worked with at The Community Art Center. Teens learned painting and collage techniques and created original artwork on used skateboard decks. The teens then curated and installed the exhibition under my guidance. All the pieces were available to purchase through an online auction, with teens receiving a portion of their sales, and The Charles River Conservancy receiving a portion to help fund potential public art installations at the skatepark.
