The Office was created for The Birdsell Project exhibition, which granted 20 artists each a room in a abandoned, 19th century stone mansion in downtown South Bend, IN. After I learned of the mansion's history as both a home and office space, I decided to combine the two by refurbishing the space into a home office set in the mansion's last era of occupancy. All signs of abandonment and neglect were severed, creating a trompe-l’oeil affect that would stand in contrast to the remainder of the mansion. Visitors were welcome to stay and socialize, have a drink, watch television or look through scrapbooks and magazines containing local history. Classic rock, folk & soul albums played on the hifi console and old programs and advertisements looped on the television..
